Rafa Nadal steps away from the tennis courts after becoming one of the best players in the world

Rafael Nadal announced his retirement from professional tennis on Thursday October 10th, in a video posted in his social media. Nadal ´s retirement playing professional tennis will take place afterwards the Davis Cup Finals in Málaga, from the 19th to the 24th in November. “I am retiring, the reality is that it has been a difficult few years, especially the last two. I don’t think I have been able to play without limitations.” said the Mallorcan in this emotional video reflecting on his 22 years at the top of the sport.

The 38-year-old Spaniard hangs up his racket with 92 titles to his name, 22 of which are Grand Slam victories. He also claimed Olympic gold medals in both singles and doubles, and won five Davis Cups. 

Unfortunately, the tennis player has barely been able to compete over the past two seasons due to a series of physical problems, starting with his hip surgery. In 2024, he played 19 matches, and in 2023, only four. In fact, on May 18 of last year, he hinted that this would likely be his final season.

Nadal stood up for never giving up on a single point. His most legend games reflect that great effort. He managed to do difficult backhands and incredible returns from disadvantageous positions, leaving both the crowd and his opponents stunned. Nadal´s retirement has shocked everyone in the world and it has claimed as an end of an era in the tennis world.
