‘Diego Vive’: Barcelona’s immersive tribute to Diego Maradona

Barcelona has welcomed the first-ever immersive exposition dedicated to Diego Armando Maradona, an idol to millions worldwide. This tribute to Argentina’s legendary footballer, titled “Diego Vive” is housed in Sala Metronom, El Born, and will remain open until the end of November. Visitors will get in touch with Maradona’s most iconic moments, offering a deep dive into his extraordinary life and career. The exhibition is part of a world tour which according to the guide, Gustavo, started in Naples “where it was a huge success”. Finally, after leaving Barcelona its end will be in Buenos Aires, where it’s expected it to be “just as successful”.

Diego Vive features a variety of attractions that allow fans to experience Maradona’s career highlights firsthand. Visitors can relive Maradona’s iconic goals “The Goal of the Century” on virtual reality and “The Hand of God”, scored at the 1986 World Cup against England. In addition to this, the exhibition includes a 360-degree room dedicated to his life, with trophies, jerseys, and photos that chronicle his journey from a young talent to a global icon.

Fiorito and Argentina-Hall: Praise of roots and national glory

Furthermore, one of the most evocative parts of the expo are two specific halls that glorify and symbolize essential scenarios in Diego’s life. On the one hand, the Fiorito-Hall is dedicated to his humble childhood in Fiorito, a neighborhood on the outskirts of Buenos Aires. This room pays tribute to his roots, recreating the kitchen-living room of the home where he lived with his family. In the same way, it was the place where Diego first proved his talent in football, at the age of eight in the local club Los Cebollitas. In other words, Fiorito is where the myth was born, shaping Maradona both as a man and as a player. This way, as one visitor noted, “although he was a controversial figure, the passion he inspired worldwide is undeniable. Diego Vive’s perspective helps you understand his influence beyond football”.

On the other hand, the Argentina-Hall is the area dedicated to Maradona’s deep connection with the national team. Here he achieved the peak of his career by leading Argentina to victory in the 1986 World Cup. For instance, an original jersey worn by Maradona during the 1990 World Cup against Romania is here displayed. This piece was donated by his family for the expo. In other words, this room rebuilds Diego’s status as one of the greatest heroes in football history. His unforgettable performance in the 1986 World Cup, above all his worldwide-known goals against England, remains a key moment both in his career and in the Argentina’s footballing heritage. Likewise, another visitor shared that “the exhibition shows the complete Maradona: the hero, the idol of the people, but also the man with his struggles and weaknesses, because that’s who Diego was: someone authentic”.
